Construction Suicide Prevention Week Set for Sept. 14-18

Washington — Construction Suicide Prevention Week is set for Sept. 14-18. The outreach event is scheduled during National Suicide Prevention Month and includes a national stand-down and moment of silence at 2:50 p.m. Eastern on Sept. 14 to honor all lives lost to suicide, according to Safety+Health Magazine.

Event Details

The 2026 CSPW Steering Committee, a group of nearly 30 volunteers, invites employers to register for the event and encourage workers to pledge to help someone in need. The pledge asks participants to learn about at least one resource to support themselves or someone in crisis. The week’s theme is “Building on Progress.”

BLS Data on Industry Rates

Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that the construction industry has a suicide rate four times higher than that of the general population.

Resources and Prior Participation

The CSPW website features resources including videos, posters, toolbox talks, and a list of crisis contacts such as the national 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. More than 500,000 construction workers from all 50 states and U.S. territories registered for the event in 2025, according to the organizers.
