DOL Renews Two-Year Charter for OSHA NACOSH
Labor Secretary Keith Sonderling renewed the two-year charter for OSHA’s National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health on October 6, 2026, according to Safety+Health Magazine. The committee was established by the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970.
Committee Role and Composition
The 12-member committee advises, consults with and makes recommendations to the secretaries of labor and health and human services on matters relating to workplace safety and health. NACOSH comprises four public representatives, two management representatives, two safety representatives, two labor representatives and two health representatives.
Member Selection Authority
The HHS secretary selects two of the four public representatives and both of the health representatives. The labor secretary selects the remaining members.
Vacancies and Next Steps
Eight of the committee member seats are vacant. The terms of the other four members are set to expire on Jan. 16. A call for nominations could appear in the Federal Register in the near future, according to Safety+Health Magazine. The renewal maintains the committee’s advisory function to the Department of Labor and HHS on occupational safety and health topics.
