Indianapolis — The National Safety Council joined OSHA and other safety organizations to form the National Serious Injury and Fatality Prevention Alliance. The alliance was announced Sept. 30 during the 2026 NSC Safety Congress & Expo. Members will develop resources, training and practical solutions to prevent serious injuries and fatalities.
Alliance Participants
The alliance includes OSHA, the National Safety Council, the American Industrial Hygiene Association, the American Society of Safety Professionals and the University of Colorado’s Construction Safety Research Alliance. According to Safety+Health Magazine, members intend to help employers identify and control high-risk hazards that can lead to SIFs.
Existing NSC Resources
NSC already offers resources aimed at preventing SIFs, including its SIF Prevention Model. The organization has worked with OSHA on workplace injury prevention for more than half a century.
Alliance Objectives
The alliance focuses on proactively addressing conditions that lead to the most serious outcomes. According to Safety+Health Magazine, NSC CEO Lorraine M. Martin stated that the alliance represents a historic evolution in the shared mission with OSHA. A second statement from Martin noted that preventing SIFs requires deliberate focus on risks with the greatest potential to cause harm. According to Safety+Health Magazine, the group aims to help employers turn knowledge into action.
