The National Safety Council has joined OSHA and other safety organizations as a charter member of the National Serious Injury and Fatality Prevention Alliance, announced Sept. 30.
Alliance Formation and Purpose
Through the alliance, members intend to develop resources, training and practical solutions focused on preventing serious injuries and fatalities. Members plan to help employers identify and control high-risk hazards that can lead to SIFs, according to Safety+Health Magazine.
Participating Organizations
Along with OSHA and NSC, the alliance includes the American Industrial Hygiene Association, the American Society of Safety Professionals and the University of Colorado’s Construction Safety Research Alliance.
NSC Statements and Resources
NSC CEO Lorraine M. Martin stated that NSC and OSHA have worked together for more than half a century to prevent injuries and save lives. Martin described the alliance as a historic evolution in addressing conditions that can lead to the most serious outcomes, according to Safety+Health Magazine.
A second statement from NSC noted that preventing SIFs requires deliberate focus on risks with the greatest potential to cause harm. The alliance aims to help employers turn knowledge into action, according to Safety+Health Magazine.
