Survey: Most health care workers fear for their safety

More than 3 out of 5 health care workers surveyed say their employer does not demonstrate strong concern for their security and that safety training is lax, according to Safety+Health Magazine.

Survey Scope and Methodology

Safety technology provider Centegix conducted the 2026 Healthcare Workforce Safety Report. The survey included more than 600 workers who interact with patients, patient family members or visitors at least once a week in a health care facility. Respondents answered questions about perceptions of safety and preparedness on the job.

Exposure to Violent Incidents

Results show 68% of respondents said they personally experienced one or more violent incidents in the past year. 74% witnessed one or more incidents. 48% said safety concerns affect their ability to provide compassionate care.

Training Gaps and Job Priorities

64% indicated they had not received safety training or drill practice within the past year. When considering a job, 54% said they place safety measures as a top priority.

Andrea Greco, senior vice president of health care safety at Centegix, stated in a press release that health care security leaders have reached a critical point. The statement noted that when workforce safety is not prioritized, consequences extend beyond staffing shortages and burnout to impact the quality of patient care.

The findings were published June 12, 2026, according to Safety+Health Magazine.
